Maputo & the deep south

The base of every trip. Maputo city, Inhaca, the Maputo National Park with elephants by the ocean, and the wild Pontas, do Ouro, Mamoli, Membene, Mucombo.

Most trips begin and end here. Maputo is home and the city where the rest of the country meets, markets, art galleries, historical landmarks, the fish market that runs on tides not clocks. From Maputo, a boat carries you to Inhaca in ninety minutes. A few hours drive puts you inside the Maputo National Park, where elephants come down to the beach at the end of the day. Push further south on the dirt road and the Pontas open one after the other, do Ouro for diving, Mamoli for stillness, Membene for the walking, Mucombo for the campsite among the dunes.
